Personalization? Is there such a word? 

Remember the smart TV reference in the previous post? Most viewers don't even connect their TVs to the Internet today. You can do this today and receive your Over-The-Top (OTT) services (e.g. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon...) in an unified environment.

ATSC 3.0 will unleash your chained up TV and integrate broadcast TV into the same look and feel!

As ATSC 3.0 is Internet Protocol (IP) based. Having your TV connected to the net will allow you to receive advanced services which we sometimes refer to hybrid delivery (both over the air AND the Internet).

Examples are:
  • Real-time voting;
  • Customized content (e.g. dashboard camera of your favorite NASCAR driver) during a live broadcast;
  • Video-On-Demand;
  • Online ordering;
  • Subscription based premium content;
  • Coupons; and
  • More detailed articles on a news subject

Of course as with everything, the coin has two sides. There might be a negative aspect from a consumer perspective as now you are receptive to targeted advertising (similar to Google or Facebook ads)....great, more ads for a product I purchased one week
